2021 Taste of Annandale canceled

The Taste of Annandale brought the community together for food, entertainment, and fun.

The Annandale-Mason Roundtable has made the
difficult decision to cancel the 2021 Taste of Annandale.

In 2020, the Taste of Annandale was canceled due to
the COVID pandemic. “This year, our ability to reliably launch and conduct a
Taste at our normal level of quality is simply impossible,” says Roundtable
Chair Bob Kahane. “Unfortunately, this year the headwinds were more than we
could overcome.”

The Roundtable is planning to be back with a
bigger and better Taste of Annandale on Oct. 1, 2022.

Since the first Taste of Annandale in 2015, it has grown
every year to become the biggest street festival in Annandale.

At the most recent Taste in 2019, nearly 6,000
people enjoyed food from local restaurants and food trucks, a 5K race, live
music and dance, children’s programming, a beer garden, pet contest, and much more.

Contributing to the event’s success was a great team
of partners – including the Mason Police District, the ACCA Child
Development Center, and the Fairfax County Department of Neighborhood and Community Services – as well as sponsors and dedicated volunteers.

This year, the team ran into several major
obstacles, and at this point, there just isn’t time to organize a Taste of
Annandale to meet the high standards the community has come to expect.

  1. Audacious Aleworks Brewery & Taproom was looking forward to another fabulous beer garden. Oh well. Safety first. See you in 2022!

  2. Nonsense, this excuse is ridiculous and just plain stupid. Whoever this decision maker its, needs to go and go work for a snail company.

  3. Sad to read about this decision. I guess “safety first” especially if by not holding these events we save lives and avoid disease. Perhaps the Roundtable should seriously condensed never holding the event ever again, because there is always a risk of disease spread at these mass events.

  4. According to the Falls Church city website, the Falls Church Festival (formerly known as the "Taste of Falls Church") is scheduled for Saturday, September 11 of this year. The city that is literally steps from Annandale is able to navigate "headwinds" and "obstacles" no problem. Annandale, which plans its similar event one month LATER, just can't do it.

    1. Falls Church is an independent city, with an entirely different governance structure. Annandale is a zip code, with the entire project being run by volunteers for the good of the community. Further, we have no idea what challenges the organizers faced. Assume they would like to have the Festival; I bet they are pretty disappointed.

  5. Thank your for the insight, James. I appreciate it!

I'm disappointed that Taste won't be happening again this year, but I'm a big kid, and I can handle it without tantrum-griping.

To the grown-ups in the community, I say that I look forward to seeing you in 2022. Until then, Cheers and Bon Appetite!

  6. This is a very big event for our community. Those critical of the decision throwing the tantrum have no respect or understanding for the tremendous effort put forth for this event. When planning for any community activity, even in our HOAs, folks should take a breath and recall that a majority show up for the event that they expect to enjoy, but they are unaware and uneducated of the operational and logistical efforts that go into planning these events. ALL FROM VOLUNTEERS.
