The Pinecrest School’s board of directors dedicated its lower building to former Head of School Nicole McDermott in honor of her 18 years of visionary leadership, from 2005 to 2023.

Pinecrest is a private school located at 7209 Quiet Cove in Annandale. The lower building houses the preschool, lower elementary grades, and administrative offices.

A plaque naming the building the Nicole McDermott Lower School Building – with the Pinecrest slogan “This is community” – was unveiled on Aug. 10.

McDermott “led Pinecrest through an era of success and achievement that has advanced our school’s educational program and strengthened our community,” the announcement states. “Ms. McDermott also embodies the values and culture that are at the heart of Pinecrest.”

Some of McDermott’s achievements during her tenure include the opening of the lower school building in 2017, providing in-person instruction during the pandemic, and getting the school accredited for the first time in 2008.

She oversaw the creation of an award-winning summer camp in 2007, expanded the school to sixth graders in 2009, introduced after-care for preschoolers and before-school care for all students, and brought mindfulness to Pinecrest in 2014.

  1. Some of her contributions also include never working with the FCPD to monitor parking and street traffic coming in and out of Quiet Cove for her entire tenure. The neighbors of Quiet Cove, Glen Hollow, and Farr St have complained hundreds of times to the school and they pretend like they are good neighbors while charging $20K for preschool
