Annandale house fire started on deck

A house fire on King Arthur Road started on the deck.

A house fire in the 3500 block of King Arthur Road in the Camelot neighborhood of Annandale May 17 caused approximately $81,000 in damages, the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department estimates.

Eight occupants displaced by the fire accepted Red Cross assistance.
When units arrived on the scene at about 3:30 a.m., they found a fire on the rear deck that was extending into the single-family, one and a-half story home. Crews quickly contained the fire to the rear deck and the attic area. There were no injuries.
All eight residents were home when the fire started. One of the occupants smelled an odor and discovered a fire in the exterior of the home before smoke alarms sounded. The occupants self-evacuated and called 911. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

  1. Any more updates? Much money has been collected with the statement that the house was "completely destroyed," yet this article still says fire was quickly contained to rear deck and attic area for about $81,000 in damage.

  2. The quick estimates are frequently wrong, for example my fire cost $200K more than the early estimate of damage. This fire in the article was a bad fire and will cost a lot of money to repair so "completely destroyed" doesn't matter, it was bad.
