A new bridge to be built in Canterbury Woods Park

The old bridge connected the swim club with Canterbury Woods Park.

Construction is expected to start within
the next few weeks on a new bridge over Long Branch Stream in Canterbury Woods
Park in Annandale. The old bridge was washed out during Tropical Storm Lee in
September  2011.
The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors authorized
$302,000 for the project, which includes a 60-foot steel-framed pedestrian
bridge and approximately 75 feet of stream bank restoration. It is
expected to be completed this winter.

The contractor, Accubid Construction Co., will
be mobilizing at the end of the parking lot of the Canterbury Woods Swim Club on
Southampton Drive. Portions of the existing Long Branch Stream Valley trail may
be temporarily closed during the project.
