Aldi construction to start next week

The future home of Aldi.
Construction on the Aldi grocery store at 7000 Columbia Pike
is expected to start next Monday, Nov. 28. The store will have approximately 12,000 square feet of selling space, with four or five aisles, as is typical for ALDI stores, says Jeff Baehr, vice president of the ALDI Frederick Division in Maryland.

Aldi Inc. announced in August that the store
would be moving into a space formerly occupied by the Bloom grocery store in the Annandale Shopping Center. The has been vacant since Bloom closed in winter 2012.

The former Bloom site has been carved into three separate
spaces. The grocery store will be in the section closest to the Treasure Trove. Tenants
are sought for the other two spaces.

“We
are looking forward to joining the Annandale community to bring shoppers the
highest-quality groceries, at the lowest possible prices,” Baehr says. “The
store will offer shoppers a modern and convenient shopping environment with
inviting colors, high ceilings, natural lighting, and environmentally friendly
building materials, such as energy-saving refrigeration and LED lighting.”

“The
store will be simple to navigate with easy-to-spot product signage and
prominent product prices,” he says. “ALDI is known for saving shoppers money on
the groceries they buy most,” such as fresh meat, bread, dairy, produce, and
household items.

At the other end of the shopping center, Lambros Goldsmiths
has opened a temporary jewelry store in a section of a former gym.  A health clinic is slated to move into the rest
of that space.

  1. I pass by there every day on the way to and from work; I would really like to take advantage of the potential convenience. Get this thing up and running!

  2. I shop the Aldi on Seminary Rd. now & love their products & prices. Not a lot of options because they mostly sell their own brands, but they're great. You may not be able to find everything there but that's OK. The "quarter in, quarter out" shopping carts keep the parking lot free of them, saving $ on people to collect them. Just remember to bring your own bags! So happy for this plus finally having these empty spots filled. Also love Lambros, an upscale store with small town service.
