Amazon Fresh will open in Bailey’s Crossroads after all
Two big things are happening at the Crossroads Center in Bailey’s Crossroads.
The Amazon Fresh grocery store that had been on hold since 2021 is back on track, and Floor & Decor is moving into the shopping center on Leesburg Pike, reports Senior Property Manager Joe Simi.
Amazon has submitted plans to redo the interior of the space and could open by late summer, although the company has not announced a date to start construction, Simi says.
The company’s original plan for its Amazon Fresh brand called for a technology-driven shopping experience with no checkout counters. Instead, cameras record all purchases in a shopping cart and customers are automatically billed.

“People didn’t like the no-checkout concept and weren’t comfortable with having a million cameras on them,” Simi says.
The Amazon Fresh store at Crossroads Center will be a regular grocery store with checkout lines but also might have some technological innovations, he says. Amazon has continued to pay rent while the space was vacant.
According to a Feb. 3 report on CNBC, Amazon Chief Financial Officer Brian Olsavsky said, “We’re continuously refining our store formats to find the ones that will resonate with customers, will build our grocery brand, and will allow us to scale meaningfully over time.”
Floor & Decor will open, possibly by late summer, in a 58,765-square-foot space formerly occupied by Bed Bath & Beyond and A.C. Moore.
The company sells all types of hard flooring – hardwood, tile, laminate, vinyl – plus wall tiles, backsplashes, and bathroom fixtures. Stores also offer DIY workshops and design services.
Floor & Decor, a fast-growing public company based in an Atlanta suburb, operates about 208 warehouse-format stores and 36 design studios.
Bed Bath & Beyond closed last spring. A.C. Moore closed in early 2020. Since then, that space has been used as a temporary store for Dick’s Sporting Goods while its store on Columbia Pike was remodeled.
Crossroads Center is now 100 percent leased, Simi says.
Floor & Decor is a terrific choice. No more commuting to Eisenhower!
Yes!!
This is such spectacular news. This area is in need of a new grocery store aside from the Giant on S Jefferson St. Aldi’s and Trader Joe’s aren’t really a one stop shop and I never go to Food Star.
The two Harris teeters aren’t good enough? Lol
Hmmm, everything that commentator listed is in walking distance of each other. ALX City and Lake Boomercroft don’t count here.
Unless there’s actually a HT in Bailey’s, which is that we’re taking about….
That’s good. Even if I don’t end up doing most of my shopping there, it’ll be really convenient after I go to Gold’s.
I would have like to try the technology driven no checkout option. Waiting in line at the register and self checkout are the two worst parts of grocery shopping. Self checkout still isn’t very convenient. Some items won’t scan, the scanners are dirty, the bag area doesn’t recognize the last item you put in it…. It would be nice to be able to just put your items in your cart and walk out. Who cares about the cameras. You’re always being watched anyway.
There is one in Kingstowne that has that option, if you want to try it.
Putting a Floor and Decor within a few short miles from another one seems a little too much tile in a small area. It seems to fit better on Eisenhower than in a shopping center with a grocery store, discount merchandise and restaurants. Oh well.
How many Home Depot stores are in the same footprint? There are more than enough residents to support a second Floor & Decor. Plus, it takes a half hour to get to the one on Eisenhower and forget about it on a weekend.
I agree with you ME. A gigantic Vape superstore would have fit that space and shopping center better than a Floor & Decor. Oh well.
Even better, a hooka lounge. We have none of those over here.
A few short miles? You obviously haven’t had to go there from West Alexandria or Baileys, etc. area – multiple times – when working a project. If you don’t like it, don’t go. 🙂
I went to the one in Fairfax, and it worked as it was supposed to. One thing I didn’t like was I didn’t get my receipt right away, so if there was an error you’d be long gone. I wonder if they will renovate the existing stores to a conventional system.
There are mainstream Americans as well. How about celebrating them as well as diverse individuals and how about not referring to everyone by them being diverse or having a certain ethnicity…..our administration does enough of this and look at our country. We are simply Americans. If we can celebrate that, then maybe our country will come together, stop being so divisive, and we can stop being a victim in situations where it isn’t called for. And remember: your constituents aren’t the only ones you are remsponsible for…..and there are many others outside of Hispanics that pay taxes.
Sir/Ma’am—
This is an Amazon Fresh.
