Americana Park to get new baseball backstop

Updated March 5: The Fairfax County Park Authority Board‘s Park Operations Committee approved a $17,189 Mastenbrook Volunteer Matching Fund Grant to the Annandale-North Springfield Little League (ANSLL) for a new backstop at the baseball field at Americana Park in Annandale. The proposal goes to the full board on March 9.

The existing backstop needs to be replaced because it is not tall enough to meet current standards for safety and ball containment.

The total project budget is $34,378. The Mastenbrook Grant will cover half of the cost, with ANSLL paying the balance.

Since 2002, the Park Authority Board has awarded approximately $1.96 million in Mastenbrook Grants for projects valued at more than $14.6 million. Individuals and groups can apply for Mastenbrook Grants for such projects as trail improvements, gazebos, park shelters, and athletic field improvements. The maximum grant amount is $20,000.
