Annandale area neighborhoods celebrate National Night Out

If you get to know your neighbors and care about your community, you’ll be more likely to watch out for one another and be aware if things are not right. That’s the idea behind National Night Out.
Neighborhoods throughout the Annandale area held cookouts, ice cream socials, and pool parties last night with the focus on community spirit and crime prevention. At many of these events, Fairfax County police officers and firefighters were on hand to provide safety tips and show off their vehicles.
The Ravensworth-Bristow Civic Association’s National Night Out gathering (pictured below) featured a visit from the Annandale Volunteer Fire Department’s Company 8, police officers from the West Springfield station, hot dogs, ice cream, and classic cars. Edsall Park invited the whole community to a pool party at the Edsall Park Swim Club and held a block party in the parking lot with a moon bounce, a cake walk (below) and other games, pizza, safety tips, and fire department vehicles.

Residents of the The Parliaments apartment complex took “a walk against crime” around the neighborhood, then gathered on the lawn for hula hoop and dance contests (below), followed by snacks and an outdoor movie (“Rango”).
