Veterans and civilians joined members of American Legion Bicentennial Post 1976 in commemorating Veterans Day at the

The Nov. 11 ceremony was led by Post Commander Roy McCracken. Post
Chaplain Gretchen Trujillo offered a prayer, and Karen McDaniel, president of
the post’s Auxiliary unit spoke about the importance of honoring the sacrifices
of family members.

“Thank you for all you have done,” the keynote speaker,
Major Thomas Shields, told the veterans. He spoke about his “sense of pride
from serving something larger than oneself.” Shields completed a seven-month
tour of duty in Iraq and is currently stationed at the Marine Barracks in
Washington, D.C.

Following the ceremony, the legionnaires hosted a steak
dinner for a group of Wounded Warriors from Ft. Belvoir. Earlier that morning,
they laid wreaths on the graves of veterans in the cemetery by the church on Columbia Pike at Gallows Road.

What a nice ceremony. Thanks for covering it. BTW, the "church" at gallows and little river is the Annandale Methodist Chapel.
