Annandale Civic Space would be a step toward revitalization

The county’s plan to create a permanent park, known as the Annandale Civic Space, at 7200 Columbia Pike, is moving forward.
A community meeting on the plan will be held June 29 at 7 p.m. Join the meeting here.
The vision for the Annandale Civic Space calls for creating a civic plaza, a children’s educational garden, a “great lawn,” a parking lot expansion, and an ADA-accessible path connected to Daniels Avenue and Columbia Pike.
The park is located on county-owned land between the ACCA Child Development Center and the Annandale Volunteer Fire Department. Community engagement for developing the park began in 2016.

Several pop-up community events were held during the summer of 2019 and during the Taste of Annandale in October 2019. Programming was canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID pandemic.
The park is a joint project of the Community Revitalization office in the Fairfax County Department of Planning and Development and the Fairfax County Park Authority.
This would be a great addition. Annandale would be more than just an eatery and a place to drive through
I'm happy to see something is happening in Annandale. I doubt it will have the impact of establishing a revitalized end product though. There are many ways to achieve this, I'd like to see a mural competition for the entry at the 495 interchange in the hopes we can welcome people and discourage the graffiti that has plagued that area. And I'd like to see a more robust entry with many more flowers to welcome passerbys. Putting overhead lights over the "downtown" area would also make it more appealing than the drive through it has become. But these are pretty simple ideas… but there has to be a reason to show up and I'm not seeing that in any of the plans.
