Annandale Community Park is getting a new playground

A new playgroup will be installed at Annandale Community Park. The Fairfax County Park Authority Board approved a plan Jan. 22 to demolish the existing playground, which has exceeded its life cycle, and build a new one.

The new playground will include play equipment with features for children in the 2-5 and 5-12 age groups. It will meet accessibility requirements for children with disabilities and will be closer to the picnic shelter.

The project also includes the installation of an accessible route to the playground area from nearby pedestrian walkways and parking lots, a safety surface, border, and subsurface drainage.

A multi-use court will be demolished to make way for the new playground. Plans call for re-location of the multi-use court in the park following completion of a stream restoration project.

Construction of the playground is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2020. Funding for the $260,176 playground project comes from park bonds approved in 2012 and 2016.
