Annandale event celebrates Asian Heritage
Annandale celebrated Asian Pacific Heritage Month on Saturday with dance performances, crafts, and lawn games.
The event, at the Eileen Garnett Civic Space at 7200 Columbia Pike, was hosted by the Fairfax County Community Revitalization (OCR) office.
The county’s showmobile featured a Chinese yo-yo performance, a Polynesian dance by Lydia “Lili u” Ortiz of D.C. Hula Girls, Korean dance and drumming from the JUB Korean Cultural Center, K-pop dance by Konnect DMV and the Westfield High School Dance Team, Vietnamese dances by AnPHOgettable, and traditional Balinese and Indonesian dances.
The Choy Wun Dance Troupe performed a lion dance on the lawn. Study Japanese in Arlington hosted origami lessons, artist and physicist Kit-Keung Kan offered lessons in Chinese calligraphy, and students from the Hapmudo Studio showed off their martial arts skills.
The Eileen Garnett Civic Space, which opened last fall, was designed to bring the community together for public events.

The OCR has scheduled monthly events at the park through the end of the year. The theme for the next event, on June 29, is fitness and health. There will be a food and movie night on July 13, a “dog days of summer” event on July 27, and an art-theme event on Aug. 17.
On Sept. 21, the Taste of Annandale will be held at the Eileen Garnett Civic Space.
