Annandale farmers markets open in May
Flowers on sale at the Wakefield market last summer |
Fairfax County farmers markets, offering fresh fruits and vegetables and other items from local producers, will open in early May.
There are two farmers markets in the Annandale area:
- The Annandale Farmers Market, in Mason District Park, 6623 Columbia Pike, is open Thursdays, 8 a.m.-noon, from May 3 through Nov. 3.
- The Wakefield Farmers Market, at Wakefield Park, 8100 Braddock Road, is open Wednesdays, 2-6 p.m., from May 2 though Oct. 31.
All products sold in these markets must be produced by venders within 125 miles of Fairfax County. Brokers and resellers are prohibited.
The farmers markets are supervised by the county’s Community Horticulture Office based at Green Spring Gardens in Annandale. Daily operations are managed by volunteer market masters. The Annandale market has a vacancy for market masters who can commit to a few hours one day a week. For more information, call the farmers market coordinator, 703/642-0128.
Both the Annandale and Wakefield markets have plant clinics run by master gardeners. You can bring them plant or insect samples for pest identification or disease diagnosis.
Please…drive slowly as you enter the parking areas at farmers markets…many young children and strollers, along with elderly customers, are always meandering in and out of the parked cars. Use the sidewalks where provided, please…helps keep driving lanes open. Welcome back, farmers markets!
