Annandale gets around 10 inches of snow
Looks like the monster snowstorm dumped about 10 inches of snow in Annandale, as the ruler shows. Here are some snowstorm things you need to know:
Plowing
Check the map on the VDOT website for the status of street plowing. For real-time traffic updates and road conditions, call 511, use the 511app, or visit the VDOT 511 website. www.511virginia.org.

A reader reports a “terrible snow plow job” this morning in the Wynfield neighborhood and rough going all way into D.C., with the worst part on the on and off-ramps to Route 50.
Power

Trash
County trash service is suspended for today. Visit the recycling and trash section of the Fairfax County government website for updates. For more information, call 703-802-3322.
Police
The Fairfax County Police Department announced Feb. 12 that commanders have the authority to implement the “accident policy” which allows for temporary, limited responses to minor motor vehicle accidents during severe weather and other emergencies. This would free up police to respond immediately to incidents involving a direct threat to life and public safety. Police will continue to respond to “personal injury crashes, hit and run crashes involving injury, and fatal crashes.”
Transit
Metro bus service has been suspended. Metro rail is continuing to run, but delays are expected.
Schools
With Fairfax County public schools closed today, that totals seven weather-related school closings for the 2013—14 year. Before today’s snowstorm, FCPS has already determined that the Presidents’ Day holiday on Monday, Feb. 17, and the April 7 teacher work day would be canceled and that the school year the school year would be extended by two days with the last day on Monday, June 23. With schools expected to be closed tomorrow, FCPS would extend the school year to June 24, but most likely not beyond that. (Seniors in the Class of 2014 won’t have to make up the extra days in June.)
