Annandale has a parade

Columbia Pike was closed for a while this morning for the annual Annandale Parade sponsored by the local chamber of commerce. Scout troops, schools, businesses, a marching band, Bolivian dancers, local clubs, fire trucks, politicians, and more made their way down the street. Many paraders handed out candy to kids in Halloween costumes. [There are more photos on the Taste of Annandale Facebook page.]

  1. The last picture of all the kids in the street I find disgusting. They were asked to stay on the curb and the parents would not tell their kids to come back. They actually at time blocked part of the parade and circled the people giving candy. The parade is not suppose to be about greed but about enjoying the amazing people participating in the parade. Annandale has an amazing parade and I for one and proud of our traditions when many are going away. Many people worked hard to put on the parade and be part of the parade. When kids surrond a van or parade walkers because of greediness I wonder what have their parents been teaching them. Thank you Annandale Chamber of Commerce for all your hard work.

  2. I agree about the not handing out candy would solve the problem. Not like kids don't get enough on Halloween. But, were the instructions given in several languages? Annandale has a lot of immigrants and a lot of the parents do not speak English – and although, the kids might they are going to ignore them.

    1. I have kids and they would never ignore instructions given to them about their safety from adults. No matter what language you speak you should be able to notice that most kids are staying on the curb and your children are BLOCKING the parade goers who put alot of time into their dances and their music. Do you need to speak the language to see your kids are being disrespectful of others? The Chamber of Commerce puts alot of time and energy into this event along with those participating and you can see your kids are being rude.
