Annandale High School hosts Just World Festival next month

The Just World Festival will bring hundreds of youths and community leaders to Annandale High School Feb. 25 to learn about global issues and youth initiatives.

The festival, sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Association of IB World Schools and the AHS Just World Club, is targeted to students from schools in Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia that have International Baccalaureate (IB) programs. AHS is one of eight Fairfax County high schools that offer the IB diploma, which requires students to take advanced academic courses, pass IB tests, and write an extended essay.

The festival, 2-7 p.m., will feature exhibits by students and nonprofit organizations, a fair trade marketplace; dance, music, and yoga workshops; and a world café with food provided by Annandale High School’s culinary technology students. Among the organizations expected are PETA, One World Education, Let’s Go Africa, STAND for Conscience, and Wake Up Somalia. This will be the sixth Just World Festival at AHS. More than 1,000 people attended last year’s event.
