Annandale HS designated a ‘Professional Learning Community’
Annandale High School has been recognized as a Professional Learning Community (PLC) at Work.
PLC schools are designated by Solution Tree following a rigorous three-year process that requires schools to implement PLC concepts over three years and prove that student learning improved during that time.
PLC concepts call for educators to focus on learning, build a collaborative culture, and create a results orientation. Those practices are expected to lead to improved student achievement.
“Annandale High School is a special place because of its people,” said Annandale Principal Shawn DeRose. “Surrounded by individuals who share a passionate commitment towards a common purpose, we’ve proven that anything is possible.”
According to Solution Tree, Annandale was selected because its educators have shown “a sustained commitment to helping all students achieve at high levels. They have been willing to alter the structure and culture of the organization to reflect their commitment.”
Isn’t Mason Crest Elementary School a PLC? They were when they opened and the won the DuFour Award their 4th year that they were open. Have they stopped being a PLC?

Yes you’re right. https://www.solutiontree.com/plc-at-work/evidence-of-excellence/mason-crest
It is my understanding that all teachers in FCPS use PLC model for collaboration. At some schools teachers have PLC as many as 4x a week.
Those poor teachers. So much administrative crap and meetings about meetings…
How are PLC meetings about meetings? They are extremely helpful with pedagogical planning and ensuring grade-level/content teams work in tandem and share expertise…
But can the students read and write when they graduate???
