Annandale man arrested for carjacking

There was a carjacking at the Wedgewood Apartments in Annandale.

Fairfax County Police detectives from the Major Crimes Bureau are seeking additional witnesses and victims following the apprehension of an Annandale man who committed a carjacking and multiple attempted carjackings within a 90-minute period.

On July 6 around 5:50 p.m., Mount Vernon patrol officers responded to an assault call in the 8600 block of Woodlawn Court in the Woodlawn area of Alexandria. Once on scene, witnesses advised officers that a suspect had assaulted and attempted to carjack a vehicle from a victim.

Several Good Samaritans intervened and detained the man until the officers arrived. Officers arrested Ranzo Johnson, 38, of Annandale.

Detectives determined that earlier in the day, around 4:35 p.m., Johnson committed a carjacking in the 7600 block of Allman Drive at the Wedgewood Apartments in Annandale.

The victim was in her vehicle when Johnson approached and pulled her out of the vehicle. Johnson then fled in her 2021 Black Lexus SUV. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Johnson drove to the 8600 block of Richmond Highway in Mount Vernon where the Lexus became disabled. Johnson attempted to carjack a second vehicle occupied by two victims but was unsuccessful due to several Good Samaritans preventing the theft.  The victims were not injured.

Johnson attempted to flee and carjack a fourth victim in the 8600 block of Woodlawn Court. The Good Samaritans once again prevented the theft and were able to detain Johnson until police arrived.  The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Johnson was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries that were sustained before police contact. Detectives have obtained warrants for carjacking, three counts of attempted carjacking, and two assault charges.

Detectives urge witnesses or any other victims to call the FCPD Major Crimes Bureau at 703-246-7800, option 5. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Crime Solvers.

  1. This is what happens when you attack police… the public starts filling the void. This one went ok but what if someone (including the criminal) was killed? It would be a disaster.
