Annandale man wins $1 million in lottery
When Jose Flores Velasquez of Annandale went to the Virginia Lottery’s customer service center in Woodbridge, he was very happy to be redeeming what he thought was a $600 winning ticket.
However, when lottery staffers looked at it, they quickly discovered the ticket was worth a lot more – It was a $1 million winner, states a press release from the Virginia Lottery.
Flores Velasquez had bought the 20X the Money ticket at the Safeway on Little River Turnpike in Annandale, where he had stopped after work to pick up a pack of soft drinks.
He had the choice of taking the full $1 million prize over 30 years or a one-time cash option of $759,878 before taxes. He chose the cash option. The store receives a $10,000 bonus from the Virginia Lottery for selling the winning ticket.
Flores Velasquez is the second top prize winner in the latest version of 20X the Money (game #2128); that means one top prize remains unclaimed.
The game features prizes ranging from $10 all the way up to $1 million. The chances of winning the top prize are 1 in 1,754,400. The chances of winning any prize in this game are 1 in 3.65.
Flores Velasquez said he plans to use his winnings to take care of his family and possibly start his own business.
In August, Jose Rolando Gramajo Rodas bought a 50X the Money lottery ticket worth $200,000 at the 7-Eleven at 7243 Arlington Boulevard in Graham Park Plaza.
According to the Virginia Lottery, in In the fiscal year ending June 30, 2022, lottery customers helped generate more than $779 million in funding for public education.
So happy for you!🎈
So glad to see one post on this site that isn’t a display of bigotry and intolerance.
759 before taxes means less than 500k. Funny how VA calculates 1M dollars. He’ll blow it in 2 years.
He should use his 400 thousand to hire a lawyer to get his 1 mil!
Counting another mans pocket, PErty lame.
This is an article about the supposed amount in a man’s pockets……. he is smiling with a picture of the amount on a massive check. The heading could be “hey computer people…… look at the amount in my pockets!”
Also he did not earn it and the dig seems to be at VA not the man.
He made a big mistake by taking a picture and revealing his identity. Hard to find a quality wife when everyone knows you got all that money.
