Annandale Today raffle winner announced
The winner of our raffle, Andrew Maletz, happens to be an Annandale resident who is a regular Annandale Today reader. He even has an Annandale Today magnet on his car.
People entered the random raffle drawing by filling out a brief survey at the Taste of Annandale on April 29.
The prize was a gift basket full of items sold in Annandale stores, including:
- Lil’ Thingamajigs on Little River Turnpike;
- Bolmarket, a Bolivian shop on Backlick Road;
- Naz Foods, a store on Markham Street specializing in food from India and Pakistan;
- Hidden Cloud, an anime/vape shop on Little River Turnpike;
- Danuri, a store with gourmet items from Korea on Markham Street;
- and K Market, an international grocery store on John Marr Drive.
Maletz said he had a great time at the Taste of Annandale, noting that his daughter especially liked the pet contest.
Originally from Oklahoma, he settled in Columbia, Md., and moved to the Wakefield Chapel neighborhood in 2017 to be closer to his investor relations job at Aon.
His wife, Debbie Maletz, taught chemistry for special education students at Annandale High School for a number of years and is now at the Davis Career Center. His kids attend Wakefield Forest Elementary School.
“Annandale Today is my favorite local website,” Maletz says. “After a tough day at work, it makes me feel happy to be in the community.”
He appreciates the coverage of local news, such as the stories about elections, but especially enjoyed the humorous piece by a guest writer about Annandale coffee shops.
“I love my neighborhood a lot,” Maletz says. “I love Annandale.”
At one point he and his wife were out for the evening at the Wharf in D.C. and decided it wasn’t worth the trip, so they returned to Annandale and went to The Block. He says, “Annandale is more fun than D.C.”
