Annandale neighborhoods plan National Night Out events
Revised: Several Annandale/Mason District community associations have scheduled gatherings Tuesday evening, Aug. 2, in conjunction with National Night Out.
The National Night Out campaign, sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, encourages communities and neighborhood associations to schedule block parties or other social events, flashlight walking tours, and visits with police and public safety officials on the first Tuesday evening in August. The purpose is to promote neighborhood spirit and raise awareness about crime prevention.
If your community has scheduled a National Night Out event, please let us know. Here’s what we’ve heard about so far:
Barcroft Plaza Apartments – Popsicles, 7:30-8:30 p.m.
Bel Air – Ice cream social, Bel Air Park on Barrett Road, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Broyhill Park/Raymondale – Cookout at the pool, 7-8:30 p.m.
Camelot – Annual potluck dinner, Excalibur Court, 6:30 p.m.
Edsall Park Civic Association – The community’s first National Night party features pizza, games for kids, a moonbounce, law enforcement officers and firefighters, and free admission to the community pool for neighborhood residents. The event will be held at Edsall Park Swim Club, 5505 Montgomery St., Springfield, 5-9 p.m.
Evergreen Heights Community Association – Dessert social, on the grassy field across from 4340 Greenberry Lane, 7-8:30 p.m.
Glen Forest Community – Ice cream social at the end of Glen Forest Drive across from Glen Forest Elementary School, 7 p.m.
Indian Run Homes Association – Annual ice cream social, 7 p.m.
Lafayette Village Community Association – Moon bounce, police officers, safety tips, 7:15 p.m.
Lakeside Plaza Condos – Potluck, 3800 Powell Lane lobby, 5:30-8:30 p.m.
Lincolnia – Cookout and scavenger hunt, Lincolnia Resource Center, 6-9 p.m.
Mantua – Ice cream socials at various locations, 6-9 p.m.
Parklawn Community – Neighbors are invited to an annual potluck to meet Mason District police officers.
The Parliaments – Movie and community patrol, on the grass between 7401 and 7409 Eastmoreland Road, 8:30-9:30 p.m.
The Pinecrest – Cookout, the gazebo at the east entrance of Pinecrest Vista Drive, 6-8 p.m.
Ravensworth-Bristow Civic Association – Fifth annual National Night Out event features an ice cream social, hot dogs, fire department visit, and classic car show; on the lawn of the Ravensworth Baptist Church, at the corner of Bristow Drive and Kalorama Road, 6-8 p.m.
Rosedale Manor Apartments – Cookout, 3417 Spring Lane, 7-9 p.m.
Skyline House – Ice cream social, 3711 S. George Mason Drive, 5:30-9 p.m.
Skyline Plaza – Cookout, 6-9 p.m.
Sleepy Hollow Woods – Lemonade, 6816 Rosewood St., 7:30-9 p.m.
Virginia Village – Pool party, 6-8 p.m.
The Condos at Woodburn – Ice cream social, 8-9 p.m.
Woodlake Towers – Community gathering, 6-8 p.m.
Wynfield Civic Association – A neighborhood representative said details hadn’t been finalized, but the Neighborhood Watch coordinator usually hosts lemonade and cookies and invites residents to turn on their porch lights, lock their doors, and walk around and visit with one another. On previous National Night Outs, Mason District police officers have dropped by.
