Annandale ranked fourth best city in Virginia by real estate co.

Annandale is listed as the fourth best city in Virginia by Movoto, an online real estate brokerage based in San Mateo, Calif. Centreville is number one, followed by Tysons Corner and McLean.
Annandale beat out the following cities rounding out the top 10: Oakton is number five, followed by Alexandria, Chantilly and Reston (tied for seventh place), Rose Hill in Fairfax County, and Suffolk (the only city on the list not in Northern Virginia).
“Annandale came in as the most diverse city in our top 10, with just 50.4 percent of the population being one ethnicity (as opposed to McLean, for example, which is 79.3 percent Caucasian),” Movoto states. “It also scored really well in its median home value—95 percent higher than the state average.”
“Outside of the numbers though, Annandale is the perfect place to, literally, get outside. Parks like the Mason District Park, the Annandale Community Park, Kendale Woods Park, and over 20 more, are scattered throughout the area,” it states.
According to Movoto, the city rankings are based on amenities, cost of living, crime, education, median household income, and diversity.
By amenities, the company considered such factors as the number of restaurants, shops, and “five-star hiking” opportunities per person, said Movoto spokesperson Travis Sawrie. The education score is based on the percentage of the population with a high school diploma.
Movoto also uses state-specific criteria. For example, the company looked at the number of “Southern restaurants” per capita in ranking the Virginia cities, using data from Yelp, because “Virginia is in the South,” Sawrie said. He didn’t seem to know that we have more restaurants from South Korea here than “the South.”

So it would be really nice if the local real estate companies thought the same, but I wont hold my breath.
Not a single book store or movie theater, one Kmart, lots of CVS stores, signs in languages other than English (the signs read English speakers not welcome). County owned low income apartment complex, gangs, illegal brothels, day laborers.
Go to another town if you want to shop at Target, Kohl's, Wegmans. Go to another town if you want Metro rail access. Work somewhere else, no real jobs here.
Annandale is part of the gentrification plan, improve everything else but Annandale, Baileys. Dump all the low income and illegals here. All the good schools are west and north of Annandale.
Annandale has been down hill for the last 30 years. Can't wait to leave, only good part is easy access to the beltway to get out of town quick.
Local real estate companies have nothing to do with Supervisor Gross's abject dismissal/ignorance of Annandale as her focus or enforcement of
existing zoning regulations.
If she wasn't so otherwise disengaged from Annandale and the income/tax producing community in nearby districts she would know that the Mobile/Exxon property is assessed at over 201.3 million, sits on 118 acres and is loosing 2100 jobs.
Instead she is spending time doing nothing to promote the nearby space or the community.
She is a lazy, self serving, excuse of a representative for the Mason district and an embarrassment to those who live here. We have not had decent representation since Tom Davis and Tina Trapnell nearly 20 years ago, and I say that as a still life long Democrat.
Gross is that, gross, as a supervisor; a sham and a charlatan.
She is the sole reason there is NO enforcement of existing zoning ordinances and restrictions and for the general precipitous decline of our neighborhoods and community.
She is absent from the purpose of her office, while she poses for photos and cuts "ribbons" with fake scissors.
As others in the "Board" and "100" and "Chambers" have said, with such incompetence on record she needs to be removed as soon as possible.

Wow. Why have you stayed here so long? Great Library system, great schools (no, really…and any of them are just fine) with great teachers, yummy restaurants to try, dynamite park system, beautiful trails, good people. Glad we're here. while we have no movie theaters here, Angelika is a uniqure movie complex very close (by car, bus, or even bike). While it might be nice to have a more diverse set of retailers, non-Koreans are certainly welcome in most. Crime is in fact not particularly high – we manage to get along with our working class neighbors. As for gentrification and rail, the county is supporting Pike Rail to Baileys, in Mason District, and will be encouraging growth there (there is already a new development planned on rte 50, just beyond the Mason District line. I agree we should push for more transit, and for more jobs in the district.
Oh and everyone knows Exxon/Mobil is consolidating to Houston. That property will be shopped around by realtors. I'm sure the County will work with them.

Personal attacks like the one above do NOTHING to advance an argument. You may not agree with Supervisor Gross, but you don't need to be as ugly about it as you have been.

So True! Annandale has its highs and lows, but the development and cultural structure in Annandale is lower class and disorganized. Over the years Annandale has decayed from a place that had some small level of culture and community to a place that is over populated with anything but a unifying identity. Annandale is a dry town with no good watering holes where young people can come and get to know each other. Where are the chain restaurants, nice supermarkets, apartment developments for young professionals and young family’s? Let me tell you why not here, because you can’t put Whole foods, Walmart in a place like this because people will steal or do what most traditional Koreans do by not supporting the business. Why no nice bars/restaurants (and please don’t call cue club, diamond lounge, or any Korean bar a nice restaurant or bar) because when you have so many cultures living in one place you can’t coexist without violence or people feeling uncomfortable in another cultures comfort zone. People living on top of each other, 8 people in one two bedroom apartment in Annandale is common, 5 cars for one 3 bedroom townhouse is common. If you want instant gratification and improvement in Annandale ask your Congressmen to turn Fairmont Gardens into a new community development, parking lot, bus station, town center, Korean BBQ jungle, skate park, go carts, mini golf, a park, office building, police station, INS satellite office, anything but what it is and that will start the change in this community.
The Exxon Mobil property is in Providence/Falls Church, not Mason/Annandale.
Annandale is split, half in Mason (Gross) the other half in Braddock (Cook), split in Police force Mason and West Springfield. It is like the last kid waiting to be chosen for a pick up game.
Schools are great (FCPS in general), Mosiac is not Annandale. Parks are good as is the bike trail. But do we need another drug store (Walgreens) or another bank? Bloom has sat empty for a while now, I don't see any retailer rushing to come in. Fairfax county really needs to enforce the legal issue like PWC did. I don't know exactly what portion of my taxes cover those don't pay, ie. free health care, free pre-K schooling. All for helping the needy but when you have all of them dumped in one place it becomes like the "Projects", 10% or so in a given development is good not 100%. Why did Fairfax County buy Wedgewood apts? Is the county in rental biz?
Annandale has potential but the county does not see it. We almost got those 500sq st units.
The police force is actually split three ways. Some of Annandale is in the Franconia police district.
I've lived in Annandale since 1984 and have invested in my home, with improvements and additions. The conditions of the streets and the neighborhood are a disgrace, with trash and tall grass in the medians all along Columbia Pike. In our section, the roads are still like they were when Annandale was considered a rural area. We have never gotten curb and gutters and have large ditches straddling our street. The rain water sweeps down our street at incredible velocities… we actually have crawfish living in the ditches!!! As a life-long Dem., I'm appalled at what P. Gross has (not) done. Penny… next election… you're outta there!
