Annandale resident seriously injured in fire

The resident of a home in the 4500 block of Airlie Way in Annandale was seriously injured in a townhouse fire Sunday evening. She was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, the Fairfax County Fire Department reports.
One of the four other occupants was alerted to the fire by a smoke alarm and tried unsuccessfully to rescue the trapped person. Firetrucks from the Fairfax County and Alexandria fire departments arrived shortly before 9:30 p.m. Firefighters quickly located the missing occupant and extinguished the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damages are estimated at $20,000. The occupants accepted assistance from the Red Cross.

Your reporting of the fire at Airlie Way raises questions about how fire crews are dispatched….particularly why fire crews from Alexandria were called to a fire in Annandale…when the Annandale fire department was so close…It is hard to tell, however, because of the lack of precision in report on the "Firetrucks from the Fairfax County…."
