Annandale resident was among Navy Yard shooting victims

Among the 12 people killed at the Navy Yard in Washington, D.C., Sept. 16, in a shooting rampage by Aaron Alexis was Annandale resident Martin Bodrog, 54, a retired Naval officer working as a civilian on the design and procurement of ships.

According to reports by ABC7/WJLA and the Washington Post, Bodrog was a devoted fan of the Boston Bruins and was a teacher and youth leader at Immanuel Bible Church in Springfield.

Originally from New Jersey, he graduated from the Naval Academy in 1981. During a 22-year career in the Navy, he was the executive officer of the USS Dubuque and later served as a surface warfare officer. He lived in the Oak Hill neighborhood in Annandale with his wife, Melanie. They have three daughters, Isabel, 23, Sophie, 17, and Rita, 16.
