A delegation of upper elementary students from the Montessori School of Northern Virginia in Annandale discovered the thrill and challenges of international diplomacy after taking part in the recent Montessori Model United Nations in New York.
The group of four students prepared for months with their entire class to learn about life in Ecuador, the country they represented at the Model UN. At the conference, the students presented speeches and papers, met with children from all over the world, learned about other cultures, and put their peace studies into practice.
It was a life-changing experience, said MSNV 6th-year student Kieffer.“I came back not only with knowledge and open eyes but with a burning passion to get out there, change the world, fix lives, and help.”
“Participating in the Montessori Model UN gives our students an opportunity to gain a perspective far beyond their classroom,” said MSNV Head of School Betsy Mitchell. “As engaged global citizens, our students discover the interconnectedness of our universe.”
