Annandale Terrace planning 50th anniversary celebration

Annandale Terrace Elementary School is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. A community celebration at the school will take place June 5, 6-8 p.m.

“The plans are evolving as we hear from more and more people,” says Principal Andrea Garris. Former students and staff members will be invited, including principals Mary Ann Ryan, who led the school in the late 1990s to the early 2000s, and Chris Dickens, who was principal until 2010.

When Annandale Terrace opened, in 1965, it was smaller and had just one story, Garris says. There was an open field behind the school where an apartment complex stands now. The first principal was Clarence Jones.

If you or family members attended the school and have old pictures, mementos, or anecdotes to share, contact PE teacher Destephanie Johnson, [email protected], or leave a message at the front desk, 703-658-5600.
