Annandale woman tried to bring a loaded gun on a plane
Transportation Security Administration officers at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport stopped an Annandale woman who tried to get through security on Oct. 31 with a loaded firearm.
The 9mm handgun was loaded with 12 bullets and was in a carry-on bag, the TSA reports.
When TSA officers intercepted the firearm, they notified the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police who responded to the checkpoint, confiscated the gun, and issued the woman a criminal citation.
She also faces a federal civil penalty for bringing a loaded firearm to a TSA checkpoint. The penalty can be as high as $15,000.
“Bringing a gun to an airport security checkpoint on Halloween or at any time of the year is no joke,” said John Busch, TSA’s federal security director for the airport. “Loaded guns are deadly weapons and present a threat. People who own firearms need to be more cognizant of where and when they are carrying their weapon. It is no secret that guns cannot be carried onto an aircraft.”
The TSA confiscated 34 guns so far in 2024. That compares to 39 in 2023.

I have guns in different bags and cars and purses; I see how this could happen. Got to be careful and remember to properly put guns in checked baggage.
If you can see how this could happen, you are not a responsible gun owner.
I don’t see how this could happen as a simple booboo..
I hope you’re a police officer with that many guns. Otherwise you don’t need them unless you fire them only at a shooting range.
There’s a basic misunderstanding of the 2nd Amendment. It applies only to authorized militia, not every Tom, Dick, and Carlene. To wit: “A WELL REGULATED MILITIA, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
It’s a truncated version of language inherited from the Articles of Confederation, which the Constitution replaced. The writers of the time feared that the states, who operated the militias, were vulnerable to either a foreign enemy or powerful central government. (Nowadays, it’s the MAGA mob.)
Too bad today’s courts forgot that first clause. Supreme Court rulings through the 1930s at least had justices who did not forget and authorized no general gun ownership by the citizenry except under the less permissive laws of the time.
Sadly, reading the crime reports makes it clearer every week that individuals have to protect themselves. In no small part because the Commonwealth Attorney Steve Descano doesn’t want to prosecute criminals that commit what he considers “minor” crimes. However the need to protect oneself and family does not negate the responsibility to safety secure your firearm at home when going to the airport. That mistake can be even more dangerous.
Don’t forget- the second ammendment does not apply on federal government property…….
