On Jan. 15, a man was arrested at Annandale High School after school staff determined he could be a registered sex offender. Virginia law prohibits convicted sex offenders from entering school property. Violators are punishable as a Class 6 felony, which could net a jail term of up to five years. Larry Lucas, 63, of Alexandria, was taken into custody and transported to the jail.

He had come to the school at about 9 a.m. to speak to staff about his child’s enrollment. All visitors are required to check in with the school’s visitor management system, which flagged him as a registered sex offender.
