Arrest made in Annandale sexual assaults

Fairfax County Police arrested a 17-year-old allegedly responsible for the sexually motivated assaults that took place in the Avant Apartment Complex in Annandale in recent weeks. The Annandale-area teen was taken to the juvenile detention center and charged with three counts of sexual battery and one count of “animate object sexual penetration,” the police reported July 8.

The first incident took place May 9, when a 25-year-old woman was walking through a common area of the apartment complex in the 4500 block of John Tyler Court. The second and third incidents both occurred on June 6, involving a 23-year-old woman attacked at 3 a.m. and an 18-year-old assaulted 30 to 60 minutes later. The most recent incident involved an 18-year-old woman, who was attacked June 29 a little after 7 p.m. The Avant Apartments are in between Ossian Hall Park and the beltway, not far from Annandale High School.
