Attempted burglary sparks major police response at Annandale condos
Residents of the Lafayette Forest condominium development in Annandale were awakened in the early morning of Jan. 3 by a huge commotion involving the police.
“I was woken by a yelling police officer and a barking K-9 in pursuit of a fleeing suspect at about 4 a.m.,” one resident reports. “They got him to lie down directly under my bedroom window. Once the officer with the dog got backup, he went around the area looking for others.” She heard the officers handcuffing a man and repeatedly yelling “where are the girls?” as a police helicopter hovered overhead.
Police were responding to an attempted burglary, says public information officer Bud Walker of the Fairfax County Police Department. “Two juvenile females were attempting to gain entry to an apartment where one of them used to live. She thought it was unoccupied, but it was occupied,” Walker says. They were not arrested on the scene, but he expects they will be charged with attempted burglary.
During that incident, police arrested an 18-year-old male for possession of marijuana.
