Backlick Park ribbon-cutting set for Nov. 17

The community is invited to a ribbon-cutting
ceremony for the renovated Backlick Park Nov. 17 at 1 p.m.
The 9-acre park at 4516 Backlick Road in
Annandale has a new shelter, picnic tables, playground, and fitness area. The
tennis courts have been renovated and have new lighting, and the trails and parking
lot was repaved.
The $1 million project was funded by a park
bond passed by voters in 2016.

The original facilities in Backlick Park had been
constructed in the early 1980s and had deteriorated to the point of being
unsafe.

Binod Gupta, a member of the nearby Elan
Mews-Royal Court townhouse community’s HOA board, and his neighbors had lodged
numerous complaints to county officials about a broken slide, falling-apart picnic
tables, and lack of maintenance at the park.
After being told it would take years to get
Backlick Park renovated, he was pleasantly surprised when the Park Authority Board approved a plan in January to completely renovate the park this year.
