Bailey’s Elementary School wins PTA grant

The National PTA has awarded Bailey’s Elementary School for the Arts and Sciences in Bailey’s Crossroads a $5,000 grant to assist families who need internet access and devices to support students’ summer learning.

The funds are part of a $1.25 million regional PTA package of COVID relief funds that are being distributed to more than 150 local and district PTA councils across the country with support from TikTok.
Bailey’s Elementary School serves approximately 1,300 students. Two-thirds of the students qualify for free and reduced-price lunch, and 60 percent are English language learners.
Many Bailey’s families receive support from the school and, as such, the school closures resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic have had a disproportionately high impact on them.

  1. Sleepy Hollow Elementary also got a 5k grant from the National/Regional PTA that it is using to help provide food to families in need. It also has over 2/3 of its student body requiring free and reduced lunches. Our PTA has partnered with non-profit Comunidad which works out of Williston for a lot of its programming. https://comunidadva.org/

  2. Sleepy Hollow PTA was also awarded a $5,000 grant by the National PTA to provide food to SHES families in need. The PTA will use the funds to distribute food baskets in the coming weeks, in partnership with a local non-profit, Comunidad (comunidadva.org). In addition, the PTA is further meeting needs of school families by providing books, soap, and laundry supplies – all of which were identified as needs by families.
