Barricade situation resolved without violence

A man is in custody following a barricade situation that ended around 1 a.m. Dec. 10 in the 6400 block of Cheyenne Drive in the Windy Hills condominium in the Alexandria area of Mason District, the Fairfax County Police Department reports.

Officers from the Franconia Police Station arrived at about 6:45 p.m. in response to a call about a man acting erratically. Mental health professionals from the Merrifield Crisis Response Center arrived on the scene and obtained an Emergency Custody Order (ECO) for the man.

Officers attempted to contact him to serve the ECO and learned that he might have a firearm. He acknowledged the officers but disregarded commands to surrender and barricaded himself in the condo.

Patrol officers contained the scene while crisis negotiators and tactical officers responded. The barricade was peacefully resolved when the man was taken into custody without any use of force. He is receiving a mental health evaluation at an area hospital.

  1. I'm so glad the situation was resolved peacefully. I hope this man gets the help he needs and can move above and beyond whatever drove him to this episode.
