Beech Tree Elementary in lock down mode
Beech Tree Elementary School in Falls Church is in lock down mode, pending resolution of a police incident in the neighborhood.
At 10:20 this morning, police responded to a domestic violence call at 3300 Hickory Court involving a fight between two family members, a Fairfax County Police spokesperson says. One person with non life-threatening injuries was allowed to exit and is being treated. The suspect is barricaded inside the house and police do not know if he is armed.
FCPS notified Beech Tree parents through its Keep in Touch system at 1:55 p.m. that the school is in “Secure the Building” status. “This means that all exterior doors are locked and students are to remain inside. Staff reacted swiftly and appropriately, and our students behaved in an exemplary manner,” the message states. “At no time was anyone on school property in any danger.”
Hickory Hill was still closed off near Annandale Rd at 6:40 when we drove by last night. However, the kids got home from school and Back To School night still went on as scheduled at Beech Tree.
