Beltway, Braddock Road closures planned

You might want to avoid the beltway tonight. The Virginia Department of Transportation issued a notice stating it “will close all lanes on I-495 north and south with a detour at Braddock Road, starting at 9:30 p.m. Four lanes in each direction will be closed by 11 p.m. Traffic will be detoured through the interchange using the right side exit ramp roads at Exit 54, Braddock Road (Route 620).

According to VDOT, you can expect delays from 9:30 p.m. to midnight. This emergency closure is necessary to remove an old overhead gas line attached to the eastbound Braddock Road Bridge.

And stay away from the Braddock Road exit ramp this weekend. VDOT will close the Braddock Road westbound exit ramp to the beltway heading north from 9:30 p.m. Friday night until 5 a.m. Monday morning to allow construction crews to relocate utilities as part of the HOT lanes project.
