Bennett-Parker elected to the Virginia Senate

Elizabeth Bennett-Parker, a Democrat who represents Alexandria in the Virginia House of Delegates, easily won a special election on Feb. 10 for the 39th District in the state Senate.
Bennett-Parker got nearly 83 percent of the vote, compared to 17 percent for her Republican opponent, Julie Robben Lineberry.
Bennett-Parker will complete the term of Sen. Adam Ebbin, who has accepted a position as senior advisor to the Virginia Cannabis Control Authority.
The 39th District includes seven precincts in the Bailey’s Crossroads and Seven Corners areas of Mason District, as well as the City of Alexandria and the Crystal City area in Arlington.

Before she was elected to the 5th District in the House of Delegates in 2022, Bennett-Parker was the vice mayor of Alexandria and a member of the Alexandria City Council.
Bennett-Parker’s win means Democrats will retain their 21-19 edge in the Virginia Senate. She will be sworn in on Feb 18.
R. Kirk McPike (D) handily won a special election on Feb. 10 to replace Bennett-Parker in the 5th District. He beat Marvin Mason Butler (R) with just over 81 percent of the vote.
“Both Bennett-Parker and McPike ran strong campaigns rooted in service, leadership, and a deep commitment to their communities,” said Democratic Party of Virginia Chair Sen. Lamont Bagby of Henrico County. “Elizabeth has shown through her work in the House of Delegates that she is focused on tackling the everyday challenges facing Virginia families, while Kirk brings years of public service and a thoughtful, solutions-driven approach to public leadership.”
