Board sets hearing on sanitary district for Holmes Run neighborhood
The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors on Sept. 12 authorized a public hearing on a proposal to create a sanitary district in the Holmes Run area of Mason District.
The hearing will be held on Oct. 24 at 4 p.m.
If the board approves the proposal, the affected area will receive trash and recycling services from Fairfax County. Residents are currently paying for private trash pickup.
The sanitary district would cover 74 properties on Thor Drive and Pence Court in the Homes Run neighborhood.
A petition requesting county refuse and recycling services was signed by 44 of the 74 affected homeowners.
The Department of Public Works and Environmental Services recommended the proposal be denied because the petition coordinator did not adjust the map as requested by staff “to avoid a negative environmental impact and to avoid higher collection costs.”
