Bob’s donates funds to Belvedere and other Fairfax County schools

Bob’s Discount Furniture donated $1,500 to Belvedere Elementary School, in the Annandale area, to complete the school’s outdoor classroom project. The funds will help support the Belvedere’s efforts to become an “Eco-School,” a green schools initiative sponsored by the National Wildlife Federation.

The check was presented to Belvedere Feb. 14 during a grand opening ceremony for Bob’s new store in the Greenbriar Shopping Center on Lee Highway in Chantilly.

Bob’s donated a total of $13,500 to schools in Fairfax County at that event plus $12,000 to schools in Maryland the same day at an opening celebration for a new store in Waldorf. There are now 45 Bob’s Discount Furniture stores, all on the East Coast. There are five in the D.C. area, including one that opened in 2011 in Bailey’s Crossroads in the shopping center at the intersection of Leesburg Pike and Columbia Pike.

Bob’s Public Relations Director Cathy Poulin presented $6,000 to Greenbriar West Elementary School in Fairfax to support its education and arts programs and $1,000 each to Congressional Schools of Virginia, Corpus Christi School, Fairfax High School, Frost Middle School, Pine Spring Elementary School, and  Woodson High School. Funding for the school grants is actually from Bob’s customers, who contributed to collection jars in the cafes at Bob’s stores.
