BonChon Chicken opens in Annandale

BonChon Chicken is back in Annandale. A new BonChon outlet opened April 30 at 7215 Columbia Pike in the building accessible from the Giant parking lot that used to house the Bukyungwon restaurant, and before that Suldoga. The interior has been completely redone.

The previous BonChon restaurant in Annandale, in the Willow Run Shopping Center on Little River Turnpike, closed in January 2013.

The specialty is cooked-to order fried chicken—wings, drums, strips, or combos—with soy garlic or hot sauce and a garnish of pickled daikon radish. It’s best with a cold beer.

Among other items on the menu: bibimbob, rice bowl, chicken katsu, bulgogi, sesame ginger salad, regular and sweet potato fries, fried shrimp dumplings, seafood scallion pancakes. The restaurant is open every day, 11:30 a.m.-11 p.m.

This is the seventh BonChon restaurant in Virginia. The others are in Arlington, Centreville, Fairfax, Herndon, Woodbridge, and Richmond. There are 24 in other states—California, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, and Texas—and 70 more overseas, in Brunei, Indonesia, Philippines, and Thailand.

Flowers from well-wishers for the new Bon Chon.

  1. Well the flavors are Garlic and Hot Sauce with lots of sugar included in both. Would love a straight up Spicy flavor but still really good wings.

    1. the owner of Chi Mc was the first Bon Chon restaurant to open in Virginia. They simply changed their name. The chicken tastes the same to me. They have been making the same fried chicken for nearly 8 years and they are located less then a mile away from this location. But I will definitely try the new location out!!

  2. They're not all the way open yet. At least half the menu is unavailable. I am guessing they'll be turned up in a week or so? You can get 4 wings and a drumstick for $13. It takes 30 minutes.

  3. Checked it out last week. The BC chicken wings and drumsticks are the ones to get. Try the half garlic soy and half spicy sauce if you're not sure about the "hot" level. Get the salads to go with the chicken. Our salad was very good with fresh quality greens in abundance. The staff take turns waiting o you. So, we will be back!
