Caboose Brewing Company is opening a new brewery in the Mosaic District in Merrifield. To celebrate the announcement – and the first anniversary of its brewery and restaurant in Vienna – Caboose is hosting a beer fest Sunday, May 15, noon-4 p.m., in Mosaic’s Strawberry Park.
The event will feature several Caboose brews, such as Wasser Pils, Citra Wheat, and Commonwealth Rye. There will be food from several Mosaic restaurants, including Iron Chef House, Brine, DGS Delicatessen, Red Apron, and Nando’s Peri-Peri, plus corn hole and children’s games.
The new Caboose brewery will be located in a repurposed 6,000-square foot storage facility on the southwest corner of Lee Highway and Eskridge Road, states a news release from Edens, the main property owner in the Mosaic District. Construction is slated to begin this fall with an opening planned for early 2017.
Pending approval from Fairfax County, the brewery may offer public tastings and a beer garden. Plans also include new pedestrian crosswalks to facilitate an easy connection to the rest of Mosaic.
The new brewery should be able to produce about 15,000 barrels a year and will have a tasting room, the Washington Post reports. While the Vienna location, which opened in May 2015, has a full-service menu, the Mosaic District brewery doesn’t yet have a license to serve food. If it does get one, it will likely be limited to brewpub fare, like pizzas and flatbed, co-owner Matt Greer told the Post.
oh man FAR OUT
These people from Vienna come here to destroy our historic warehouses and create more yuppie traffic and chaos and ruin the lives of the Annandale bigots. RETURN TO SENDER!
*Just kidding*
On a side note these are awesome news, I can't wait for this new awesome new business in the Mosaic District. What a lesson about how to revitalize an urban space. Welcome Caboose!
