Bubble tea shop coming to Annandale
Gong Cha is coming to this retail strip on Annandale Road. |
A new bubble tea shop, called Gong Cha, is opening at 4220
Annandale Road at the end of 2018 or early 2019.
The shop, next to Kogiya Korean BBQ, will offer Asian tea
drinks, such as bubble tea, milk tea, and its specialty, “Gong Cha milk foam
series.” Teas come in various flavors, such as
passionfruit, taro, chocolate, lemon, watermelon, and mango, to name a few, plus optional toppings, like grass jelly, coconut jelly, red bean, and others.

You won’t have to wait until the store opens to try those teas: Gong Cha will be at the Taste of Annandale, a street festival Oct. 13 on Tom Davis Drive.
Later on, probably next spring, the menu will be expanded to
include waffle desserts and ice cream, says franchisee Kevin Tran of
Springfield.
The Gong Cha company was established in Taiwan in 2006 and
since grown to nearly 1,500 outlets worldwide. The Annandale shop will be the
first one in Virginia.

I know absolutely nothing about tea houses, which are apparently quite popular elsewhere. How do they compare to coffee houses, cafes, restaurants, and fast food places/food courts? Do you just get your drink and go, or do you hang out for a while and chat with your friends or read your book/electronic device?
Bubble Tea is a truly unique beverage. Typically you can order it at a counter and take out with you like Starbucks.
The bubble tea shops around our area are all very inviting. Some have really cute decor. I see teenagers hanging out playing board games with each other. I also see students sitting by themselves studying. Great drinks and cool concept.
Considering the location, does it mean that GongCha will be replacing Bambu Desserts and Drinks?
