Businesses object to Vulcan expansion

public hearing on a rezoning proposal from Vulcan Materials Co. to provide more time to resolve an issue on traffic

The company wants to consolidate its concrete batching
plants, construct a maintenance building and office buildings, and in the
future, construct an asphalt plant. It submitted an application to rezone over 141,000 square feet of its
property from residential and commercial to heavy industrial uses and to
increase the maximum building height, currently limited to 75 feet, to 135 feet.

congestion caused by Vulcan’s use of a spur from the Norfolk Southern railroad
line along Industrial Drive.

as 45 minutes twice a day.
