The carnival comes to Annandale
Summer must be on the way because the annual carnival is here in the Kmart parking lot. The carnival, sponsored by the Annandale Chamber of Commerce, has been coming to Annandale for at least 10 years, says Veto Blake, an electrician with Reithoffer Shows, a family-run business based in Florida that owns and operates carnival attractions.
Blake says a new ride at this year’s carnival is Pharaoh’s Fury, a giant swinging boat. Another ride for those with no fear and strong digestive systems is the Freak Out, where riders are suspended from a giant rotating arm. Younger, shorter carnival-goers might enjoy tamer rides like Bear Affair, Fire Chief, Tea Cups, and the carousel. Other fun things to do at the carnival: eat a funnel cake and cotton candy and try to win a stuffed animal at the shooting range, bowl toss, or other game. Tickets are $1.25 each (12 for $10), and you need two to four tickets for each ride.
The carnival will be in Annandale for one more week – it opens at 5 p.m. on weekdays, 11 a.m. on Saturday, and noon on Sunday. After that, Reithoffer will pack up the rides and move to a shopping mall in Baltimore, then will spend the summer at state fairs from Vermont to Florida.
