The Fairfax County Police Department reports the following recent crimes in the Annandale/Mason District: On Aug. 25, at about 9:40 p.m., police responded to a report of a man screaming for help in a parking lot in the 4900 block of Lincoln Ave. in Lincolnia.

School board approves employee bonuses
The Fairfax County School Board on Aug. 26 approved one-time $1,000 bonuses to all full-time and hourly contracted employees, including bus drivers and food service workers. Temporary hourly employees will get $500 bonuses.

Community members donate supplies for Afghan refugees
Local residents bring donations for Afghan refugees at NOVA. Community members came out in force Aug. 21 to help Afghan refugees sheltered at Northern Virginia Community College in Annandale. The refugees were among the few able to catch a flight out of Kabul as the Taliban took over the country.

COVID vaccine mandate set for county employees
The Fairfax County Health Department hosted a mobile COVID vaccine clinic at Ossian Hall Park in Annandale earlier this month. Metro to expand service, cut prices

Metro is adding more trains and buses, reducing prices, and extending operating hours, beginning Sept. 5. The changes will bring overall bus and rail service to near pre-pandemic levels.
