Catholic school plans to add childcare

The Queen of Apostles Catholic School in Lincolnia has applied for a zoning special exception to add childcare for children ages 2 and a half to 5.

The school isn’t proposing to expand its building or increase the student capacity.

The Fairfax County Planning Commission is scheduled to hold a hearing on the application on July 17.

Queen of Apostles has been approved for 300 K-8 students, but currently enrolls about 180. The childcare component is expected to start with 25 children this fall.

The school is connected with the Queen of Apostles Catholic Church, which serves about 1,200 families, including Northern Virginia’s Ghanian Catholic community. The church was built in 1964, and the school opened in 1979. The church offers masses in English and Spanish and also hosts a graduate school of theology.
