Child escapes potential abduction

There was an attempted abduction of a juvenile Oct. 13 in the 3300 block of Wheatwheel Lane, in the Raintree community in Annandale, the Fairfax County Police Department reports.

The victim was playing with a friend near the road at about 3 p.m., when a man picked her up from behind.

The girl was able to fight the man off, and the suspect ran from the area. The victim returned home to family who immediately called police.

The suspect was described as a thin black man with medium complexion in his late 20s to early 30s with short black hair. He has a small scratch on his face and was clean shaven. He was wearing a dark shirt and slim-fitted pants.

Anyone with information or surveillance images should call the FCPD Major Crimes Bureau at 703-246-7800. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Crime Solvers.
