Children’s art on display at Mason Government Center

A reception at the Mason District Government Center Friday evening showcased paintings by Annandale-based artist and teacher Rita Duck McCarn and her students.

The Teacher + Student Exhibition, featuring works by Sloane and Trent Bailey, Nadia Burns, Tony Delgado, Laila Omar, Lillian and Isabella Rehermann, and Julia Tredeau, as well as McCarn, will be on display through Feburary 2012. The exhibition is part of Mason Supervisor Penny Gross’s effort to highlight local artists.

McCarn, the owner and operator of Sleepy Hollow Arts, a small studio in Sleepy Hollow Woods, offers private and group lessons to children and adults. She says her classes “focus on design, balance, and color, with a variety of drawing and painting techniques. Lessons also feature prominent artists throughout history and basic themes in art appreciation.”  She also teaches art classes for Fairfax County Parks and Recreation.

McCarn works in various media including pastel, acrylic, and watercolor and has exhibited her work at shows in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
