Church launches chorister program for kids
St. Alban’s Episcopal Church is launching a Royal School of Church Music Chorister Program for children this month.
St. Albans is located at 6800 Columbia Pike in Annandale.
The chorister program is open to families of all faiths – or of no faith – and is free to join, reports Adam Detzner, minister of music and organist at St. Alban’s. It is modeled after the curricula and approach of the ancient cathedral and collegiate choral foundations of the United Kingdom. The program uses the Royal School’s Voice for Life curriculum.
Children will learn music theory and sight-singing and will work with a professional vocal coach in private chaperoned mini-lessons. St. Alban’s will provide free snacks and monthly dinners. The children will also be paid a small stipend for their participation, which increases as they progress through the program.
