Community input sought on Wakefield Skatepark expansion

The Wakefield Skatepark is going to be redesigned and expanded, and the Fairfax County Park Authority is seeking input from the skateboarders, inline skaters, and BMX bikers who use it.
The Wakefield Skatepark is the only stakepark in Annandale. Located at the Audrey Moore RECenter, it was built in 2004.
The new design is expected to be approved by November, with construction to begin in 2012. The county has hired the Spohn Ranch Co. to develop the project. The California-based company has built 1,000 skateparks, including some used in the X-Games, and promotes itself as “pioneers of skate plazas and skateable art sculptures.”
If you missed the public planning meeting on the expansion, you can still submit comments to the Park Authority throughout the summer. There’s a comment form on the bottom of this website.
