Community invited to the Taste of Annandale

Have you seen the Taste of Annandale signs popping up all over the community? This one is on Columbia Pike in front of United Baptist Church.
The Taste of Annandale is just a few weeks away – and lots
of plans are falling into place to make this festival a must-attend
event for everyone in the Annandale community and beyond.
The third annual Taste of Annandale is Saturday, Oct.
14, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., on Tom Davis Drive. That’s in the center of Annandale,
between Columbia Pike and John Marr Drive. It’s free, and it’s dog friendly, as
well as family friendly.

The event features food from local restaurants and food
trucks, live entertainment, a 5K race, a full schedule of children’s
programming hosted by the ACCA Child Development Center; a chili cook-off
pitting the Annandale Volunteer Fire Department, the 2016 winner, against the
Mason Police District; and booths hosted by local businesses and organizations.

The Title Sponsors of the Taste of Annandale are BB&TBank, Bill Page Toyota, and Page Chevrolet.
Gold Sponsors include the Annandale Rotary Club, Annandale United Methodist Church, and the Korean American Chamber of Commerce of Virginia. The Silver Sponsors are Chico’s Natural Pet Market, Congressional School, the Couts Group/Coldwell Banker, and the Annandale Blog.
It’s not too late to sign on as a sponsor, food vendor, or
non-food vendor. To learn more about sponsorship and vendor opportunities,
contact Taste of Annandale Committee Chair Bob Kahane, [email protected], 703-856-8773.
The Taste of Annandale is aimed at encouraging community
engagement, celebrating Annandale’s diversity, and shining a spotlight on local
restaurants and businesses. Funds raised by the event will support a project
benefiting Annandale youths.
Here’s what’s planned so far, although many more details
will be announced within the next few weeks:
Taste of Annandale 5K Race – The race starts at 10 a.m. in
the Kmart parking lot at 4251 John Marr Drive. Runners will head down Columbia
Pike, go through Mason District Park, and return to Kmart. That stretch of
Columbia Pike will be closed to traffic during the race.
The race is certified by USA Track & Field. Registration
for the 5K is $20 for ages 15 and up and $12 for age 14 and younger. Register
here.
Food – The following restaurants and food trucks have signed
up so far, with more in the process of completing the paperwork: American
Legion Bicentennial Post 1976, Annandale High School Culinary Arts Department,
Barnside Diner, Baja Bistro, El Fuego, Empanadas de Mendoza, Peruvian Brothers,
and Pho Wheels.
Entertainment – The following acts have been scheduled, with
a few more expected to be added: the Monarca in Flight aerial dance group, Blue Book Value Band, Lee’s Hapmudo Martial Arts, “7” Step Hand Dance Academy,
Tamure Ataata, Alice Gu-Zheng Ensemble, and a Mariachi band.

We need volunteers from the community to help make this
event a success. If you can help, contact Nancy Hall, [email protected], or fill
out the form on the Taste of Annandale website,
